TREATMENT OPTIONS

A skin allergy test with numbered markings and a needle.

At The Allergy & Asthma Center of Southwest Arlington we use evidence‑based therapies to manage allergic, respiratory, and immunologic conditions. Treatment plans are individualized based on diagnostic testing, symptom severity, and patient goals.

Medications

A wide range of medications is available to treat allergic and respiratory diseases. The provider will determine the most appropriate regimen based on your diagnosis and response to therapy. Treatment may include:

  • Antihistamines
  • Nasal corticosteroids
  • Inhaled asthma controllers
  • Topical therapies for eczema
  • Short‑term systemic medications when needed

Medication plans are tailored to achieve optimal control with the least amount of medication necessary.

Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots)

Allergy immunotherapy is the only treatment that modifies the immune system’s response to allergens. By administering gradually increasing doses of allergen extract, we help the immune system become less reactive over time.

Immunotherapy is effective for allergies to:

  • Pollens
  • Molds
  • Animal dander
  • Dust mites
  • Insect venom

Benefits may include reduced symptoms, fewer asthma exacerbations, decreased medication use, and long‑lasting improvement even after treatment is completed. Each patient’s serum is custom‑formulated based on their specific sensitivities.

Rush Immunotherapy

Rush Immunotherapy is an accelerated method of reaching a therapeutic dose of allergy serum.

Instead of weekly dose increases, multiple injections are administered during a single, closely monitored visit. This approach allows the immune system to reach effective dosing more quickly, and many patients experience improvement within 6–8 weeks.

Biologic Therapies

Biologic medications are targeted treatments designed to block specific pathways involved in allergic inflammation. They are administered by injection or infusion and may be recommended for:

  • Moderate to severe asthma
  • Chronic spontaneous urticaria (hives)
  • Atopic dermatitis (eczema)
  • Nasal polyps
  • Severe allergic inflammation not controlled with standard therapy

Biologics are often used when traditional medications or immunotherapy are insufficient or not well tolerated. The provider will evaluate clinical history, testing, and treatment response to determine whether a biologic is appropriate.

During your visit, we’ll help determine whether a biologic is the right option for you.
